It's alarming to know that Ganges will become a seasonal river. 25 years is not too long..most of us might live to see this day. Imagine India like Darfur - scary !!!
We can do something about this, it's already too late to reverse the glacier meltdown, but we can atleast stop worsening the current global environmental situation. Consume less(water, electricity and everything else) only to the extent of what is required for our lives, avoid using plastic bags, let us build 'mazhai neer thotti' in our homes, plant trees and above all let us stop thinking just along economic status and realize that there's much more to our lives and this world. It's important to earn money for ourselves and our children and also give a good education to our kids, but we are forgetting what is more important - to leave them with enough land, air and water for the rest of their lives. We are not even talking about our grandchildren. The next generation is going to be impacted.
When we look at the magnanimity of the problem, it's so easy to say that we can't do anything about this and call it as FATE. It takes tremendous courage and will-power to take this situation in each of our hands and do what little we can, to make the situation better. First of all, we should be aware of this happening around us, DENIAL is the biggest sin. Once we acknowledge that this is happening, then we can do what is required to change or fix this. There are a lot of people and organizations who are working to make this better, let's see how we can help them. Atleast we should be able to do the minimal things by looking at our lifestyle and making slight changes that will cause less carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions. Let us spread the awareness first. Read about the latest scientific developments and keep yourself informed.

Yes, it is a real issue and urgent action required from each one of us.
Unfortunately, the ground reality is that we give attention to such issues only at the time we read or hear such issues. After few minutes, we just melt away with the way we are living. This is true with me (even though I give extreme importance to such issues ) and many others I have come across.
There are many variables for such issues. If we are really concerned, we can initiate action from our side as individuals to the extent possible for us. Probably we may have to look into this problem from another angle also.
Due to the population explosion and the comfort zone we are in, it is unavoidable to use the natural resources. But the availability of natural resources is limited and hence there is an imbalance created. When there is an imbalance, the nature has the capability to balance it and it has to balance. The interest of nature may not be always sweet for us.
Hence, in addition to preserve the sweetness of nature, we must be ready to taste the bitterness of nature also. We may need a great deal of fearlessness for this!
It is not that I am dragging away from the real issue. This issue has multiple dimensions. We will be able to act from only certain dimensions and we have to act. But, it may be required to understand the other dimensions and the implications also!
